American Express Survey Sees Hope for Travel Demand – Despite softness in the economy, the companies surveyed in American Express’ 2nd Annual Strategic "Sourcery" Survey reported that travel is a crucial element for their business and that 83 percent of respondents expect their travelers to take the same or increased number of trips this year when compared to last year. The results focus on companies’ search for smarter and more cost-effective ways to keep travelers on the road given the current economic environment.
Tripadvisor Finds Gas Prices Cause Change in Travel Plans – According to TripAdvisor’s annual summer travel survey of more than 4,000 travelers worldwide, 91 percent of global respondents and 90 percent of Americans are planning leisure travel this summer. The three most popular vacation destination types that travelers plan to visit this summer are beaches (61 percent), cities (49 percent), and lakes and mountains (31percent). Excluding transportation and accommodations, most travelers plan to spend the greatest amount of money on their summer vacations this year on restaurants (46 percent, down from 53 percent in 2007) followed by tours (10 percent, compared to 13 percent last year).
GAS PRICES NOT LIKELY TO AFFECT SUMMER TRAVEL PLANS
Six of ten (59 percent) Americans who are currently planning a trip with their car, truck or SUV this summer will not change their travel plans even with additional increases in the price of gas, according to the closely watched travelhorizons™ survey co-authored by the Travel Industry Association (TIA) and Ypartnership.
